Take aways: Yes, nuts have calories, but they can easily be incorporated into a healthy diet when eaten in proper portions. A 2011 study in the Journal of The American College of Nutrition backs this up, with researchers finding that nut consumers, especially tree-nut consumers (think almonds, pecans and pistachios) had a lower BMI and smaller waist circumference compared to non-consumers.
